A Look at "Basics" for Economic Recovery

Scrambling & Adjusting
Education, innovation, inventions, hard work, and the free market economy all working together have given the world the existence and prosperity we enjoy today. As we are now all scrambling and adjusting to rough economic times, it is important to evaluate the basic elements of our past successes as individuals, companies, countries, and the world.

Again, the free market enterprise system has been a basic underlying element for success operating in a country of freedoms, many important ones to mention. Let’s take a look at two types of “enterprises” as examples: First “service businesses” and second, “product producing industries.”

Should We All be Washing Each Other’s Laundry?
It is easy to see looking at an extreme, when we are all washing each other’s clothes as a service industry, we are on the way out. This illustrates the staggering importance of “product producing industries” like agriculture, manufacturing, and energy. If you can buy into this analysis, then we can together take constructive steps forward to turn things around.

Organized labor that elected our Congress and President continues its all out campaign for passage of the jobs-killing Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). This legislation is both anti-worker and anti-competitive, yet it remains as a priority for many in Congress.

“There are some grounds for optimism, but even greater grounds for caution – caution by our officials at the local, state, and especially the federal level. A recovery could stall out or even shift into reverse if Congress and the administration enact policies that discourage investment, hamper flexibility, or raise the cost of doing business in the United States. Prospects for good jobs, a strong manufacturing sector, and a growing economy depend on U.S. global competitiveness.”

John Engler
President of the U.S. National Association of Manufacturers (NAM)

Our Country is Strong for a Reason... Stand Up for What is Right
We are a strong country because we’ve had a strong work ethic and any and all federal legislation that pushes to destroy this strong work ethic should be opposed and, in fact, legislation that encourages innovations, inventions, and hard work with rewards should be strongly encouraged.

Support Construction Rather Than Consumption
Let’s look at the energy industry, we all know that some fail to recognize the underlying facts of this situation. It is well known, as an example, electric autos driven by stored energy and batteries must all be recharged with an electrical source of energy. The push for electric autos will only exacerbate the problems of the electrical power generation systems we have today in the U.S. All the facts show that with the extensive efforts and even economic inducements by our federal government, wind power will only provide a very small part of our energy requirements.

For Energy, Nuclear Power is our Salvation
It is also a known fact that nuclear power generation within the United States has been producing for over 50 years and without a single accident-related fatality. It is also a fact that when properly engineered and managed, nuclear power plants do not emit any elements of pollution into our atmosphere.

This is opposed to the power generated from coal, oil, and natural gas burning generating plants producing electrical energy. The question is why does our federal government continue to ignore nuclear power generation? It is only with the political pressure from our electorate that we will correct this situation, and we should all push to correct this serious current situation now.

It is not fair for any of us to say, “Well, I’ll never see the day, so what?” We have a tremendous responsibility to the generations that follow us. I suggest if you don’t like what’s going on nationally today, don’t knock people but knock policies, or better yet, support positive, sound, and proven national policies.
